Your passport is about to carry a new meaning
Canadians will now require a proof of vaccination to enter most non-essential public settings like restaurants, bars, gyms, sporting events, and concerts. You will be expected to show a receipt of both your first and second dose, as well as any government-issued ID, to enter those establishments.
Getting your proof of vaccination now.
Vaccination records or receipts are issued by your province or territory. Current COVID-19 vaccination documents are not yet standardized for international travel. This is coming soon. After you are vaccinated, you can log in to the provincial portal to download or print an electronic COVID-19 vaccine receipt/proof of vaccination for each dose you have received, regardless of where you were vaccinated.
To log in and get your receipt and proof of being vaccinated, you will need your photo health card (OHIP card if you are in Ontario), date of birth and your postal code

Will proof of vaccination be required everywhere?
There are some exemptions. Here’s a list of those places and non-essential businesses where proof of vaccination would not be demanded.
- To use the washroom
- To pay for an order
- To access an outdoor area that can only be accessed through an indoor route
- To place or pick up an order, including placing a bet or picking up winnings at a horse track
- To purchase admission
- To make a retail purchase
- For the purposes of health and safety
- Weddings and funerals

Canada has one of the world’s highest vaccination rates with almost 56 million doses administered to date. In Ontario about 80% 79.39% of the eligible population are fully vaccinated. Canadians are being urged to be patient when they go dining out or attending an event, as organizations adjust to this new demand of proof of vaccination.
