Canadian and multicultural fellowship embrace the change

“Light precedes every transition. Whether at the end of a tunnel, through a crack in the door or the flash of an idea, it is always there, heralding a new beginning.” (Theresa Tsalakys).
It has been a new day and indeed a new beginning for the Milestone Church. As one of the most cosmopolitan congregations in the Greater Toronto Area, it stands as a symbol of the country’s vibrancy, immigrant diversity, and harmony.
Almost everything changed on the new leadership launch day at Milestone recently. And with a string of transformative pronouncements, history rang a loud bell.
KJ & Nadene
So what’s new at Milestone?
- Leadership change
There was a leadership change that spans Milestone’s congregations across the GTA.
The leadership baton has been passed on to Kevin & Nadene Joachim. In his new role as the new Lead Evangelist, Kevin will champion the strategic visioning for the church and its growing multi-cultural membership.
KJ, as he is fondly called is Canadian with Trinidadian heritage; while his wife Nadene was born in Jamaica and moved to Canada from The Bahamas. Their attributes of empathy, spiritual depth and positive energy have been applauded in all their previous leadership roles.
- West and East new leaders
Mike and Damali Abrokwah have been appointed Evangelist and Women’s Ministry Leader for the Milestone location in Ajax, Ontario. They were previously leading the well-grounded Singles Ministry. As well, Stewart Escalona and his wife, Lisa are the newly appointed Evangelist and Women’s Ministry Leaders for Milestone Mississauga.
- New Eldership
Richmond Acheampong was appointed into the Eldership of Milestone. Richmond, a Water Quality Analyst for the City of Toronto, is originally from Ghana, West Africa. Over the years, he has made a significant impact in various communities in the Toronto GTA.
Milestone is part of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC). This fellowship of believers has had a long history of dynamic, spirit-led leaders from across the world such as Mark and Connie Mancini, Toks Showolu, Mike and Anne-Brigitte Taliaferro, Henry & Marylyn Kriete, Onyechi ‘Nichie’ and Deysi Oguagha, Kevin & Lisa Robbins, Mark Templer and a few others.
As KJ and Nadene receive the mantle of leadership from visionary, Andrew Lewis, they will remember his counsel also that “what matters the most is not the crowd that follows, but the narrowness of the path you choose.”
Milestone seems poised to embrace the future and an increasingly complex world that has many uncertainties and only one guarantee: the continuity of change.
